I find Caffery's use of strong contrasting light intriguing. Her photographs manipulate the light to hide detail rather than reveal it. Her photographs capture the essence of a subject through movement, Shadow, composition and form. I am drawn to their almost abstract and mysterious quality, as this seems to intensify the emotional connection between viewer and subject matter.
Burning Pine Needles (1988)
In this image I like the way movement and shadow have created a gostly presence.
Polly and Her Chicken (1986)
These photographs are facinating because of the way light has penatrated through sheer fabric. This has created soft abstract line, which makes an interesting backdrop to the figures in the forground.
Polly, Baby Shoes (1988)
Gabriela (2009)
In this image I am mostly inspired by the strong contrast of light, the direction of the light source and the effect this has on form.
